Under the auspices of the President of the University and under the supervision of the Dean of the Institute, the Department of Medical Laboratory Technologies, within the development plan of the scientific departments and through the Scientific Unit, organized a scientific workshop on the objectives of laboratory safety rules, during this October, and it was delivered by
Eng. Taghreed Mustafa Zayan
and Eng. Taqi Mohammed, the lecturers in the above department, and a number of the institute’s employees and students participated.
The aim of the workshop was:
Protecting workers: with the aim of protecting people working in the laboratory from harm or injury due to handling hazardous materials or equipment.
Environmental protection: Ensures that hazardous substances are handled in a way that minimizes potential damage to the environment and other living organisms.
Ensuring the safety of procedures: Aims to ensure that all processes and procedures are carried out in a safe manner, including the transport, storage and use of chemicals.
Provide adequate training: Provide information and training to all personnel about hazards in the laboratory environment and the necessary means of prevention.
The workshop showed the most important understanding of laboratory safety recommendations, the most important of which was:
Wearing personal protective equipment: Wear a lab coat, gloves, goggles, and closed shoes to protect the body from chemicals.
Maintain cleanliness and tidy: Keep the workplace clean and tidy, commit to cleaning it after the work is done, and avoid leaving tools and materials in places that are not intended for them.
Training and Information: Read and understand standard procedures and working methods before starting any experiment and immediately report any malfunctioning device or accident.
