Policy Statement:
(NTU) is dedicated to integrating sustainability principles into its procurement and purchasing practices. We recognize the significant impact of our procurement decisions on environmental, social, and economic dimensions, and we are committed to fostering a culture of responsible sourcing and consumption.
Scope and Applicability:
This policy applies to all procurement activities undertaken by NTU, including the acquisition of goods, services, and construction projects, as well as the management of supplier relationships and contracts. It is applicable to all departments, units, and individuals involved in procurement processes at NTU.
Efforts of NTU in Sustainable procurement and purchasing policy
- Environmental Responsibility: NTU will prioritize the procurement of goods and services that minimize environmental impact, promote resource efficiency, and support the transition to a low-carbon economy. We will seek products with eco-friendly certifications, reduce packaging waste, and encourage the use of renewable materials and energy sources.
- Social Responsibility: NTU is committed to upholding human rights, labor standards, and ethical business practices throughout its supply chain. We will work with suppliers who demonstrate respect for worker rights, diversity, and inclusion, and we will actively combat issues such as forced labor and child labor. NTU will also support suppliers that provide fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for professional development.
- Economic Sustainability: NTU recognizes the importance of supporting local economies, promoting innovation, and fostering economic resilience through its procurement activities. We will prioritize local suppliers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and social enterprises whenever feasible, and we will seek opportunities to create shared value and stimulate economic growth in the communities where we operate.
- Legal and Regulatory Compliance: NTU is committed to complying with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to procurement, sustainability, and ethical sourcing. We will ensure that our procurement processes are transparent, fair, and compliant with applicable legal requirements, and we will hold ourselves and our suppliers accountable to the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
- Roles and Responsibilities: Procurement Officers: Responsible for implementing and enforcing the sustainable procurement policy, including conducting supplier evaluations, monitoring performance, and promoting sustainability best practices.
- Department Heads: Responsible for integrating sustainability considerations into departmental procurement decisions and practices, and for supporting staff in implementing the sustainable procurement policy.
- Sustainability Managers: Responsible for providing guidance, training, and support on sustainability issues related to procurement, and for facilitating collaboration between procurement and sustainability teams.
- Suppliers: Expected to adhere to NTU's sustainability requirements and to demonstrate continuous improvement in their sustainability performance. Suppliers are encouraged to proactively engage with NTU on sustainability initiatives and to contribute to the achievement of shared sustainability goals.
- Supplier Engagement: NTU will actively engage with suppliers as partners in advancing sustainability objectives. We will collaborate with suppliers to assess their sustainability performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop mutually beneficial sustainability initiatives. NTU will also recognize and reward suppliers that demonstrate excellence in sustainability practices.
- Monitoring and Review: NTU will regularly monitor and review its procurement practices to assess compliance with the sustainable procurement policy, identify areas for improvement, and measure progress towards sustainability goals. Feedback from stakeholders, including staff, suppliers, and external partners, will be sought and incorporated into continuous improvement efforts.
- Training and Awareness: NTU will provide training and awareness programs to educate staff and suppliers on sustainability principles, practices, and expectations related to procurement.
