Development Course Entitled How to Design Solar Systems to Power Homes

The Department of Electronic Technologies at the Institute organizes a development course entitled How to Design Solar Systems to Supply Energy to Homes.

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, President of the University, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Maha Al-Taif Jassim, Dean of the Institute, and in cooperation with the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division, during this October, a development course entitled ‘How to Design Solar Systems to Supply Homes with Energy’ was delivered by
Eng. Dr. Falah Mohammed Abed, Head of the Department above, and attended by a number of the Institute’s employees with specialization.
The objective of the course was:
1- Design your own residential solar energy system, a complete home solar system consists of other components in addition to the solar panels themselves. Because solar panels produce DC electricity, a solar inverter is required to convert DC to AC. AC current flows to the home’s electrical panel to power electrical and electronic devices via the outlets of the house.
The course dealt with the following axes:
The first inverter: solar panels.
Second axis: Charge regulator: Regulates the voltage and current coming from the photovoltaic panels that go to the battery, prevents battery overcharge and prolongs battery life.
Third axis: Inverter or inverter: DC current coming out of photovoltaic panels or wind turbines is converted into clean AC for AC devices or returned to the grid.
Fourth Axis: Battery: Stores the energy generated by solar panels to supply electrical appliances on demand.
The course came out with several recommendations, the most important of which were:
The grid-connected solar system (a system directly connected to the utility grid) is the most common form of home solar energy systems, as opposed to off-grid systems. In some cities, networked homeowners can take advantage of net metering policies. Net metering means that the surplus energy produced from homeowners’ panels is purchased or added to their balance
