UNESCO held today the fourth lecture, in cooperation with Northern Technical University, as part of the project “Reviving the Cities of Mosul and Basra – Phase Three.”

As part of a series of lectures on heritage preservation and management, UNESCO held today the fourth lecture in cooperation with Northern Technical University, within the framework of the project “Reviving the Cities of Mosul and Basra – Phase Three,” and with the gracious attendance of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar.

The lecture was dedicated to discussing the reconstruction of Al-Hadba Minaret as a pivotal scientific case study, going beyond being merely a construction project to represent a real test of the principles of heritage preservation. It addressed the delicate challenges related to balancing historical authenticity with the requirements of contemporary engineering intervention.

The lecture was attended by a distinguished group of engineers from Nineveh Governorate, representatives of relevant state institutions, as well as students from the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies – Technical Engineering College. This gathering reflected the integration of professional expertise with academic education and emphasized the importance of dialogue between decision-makers, professionals, and educational institutions.

The presence of the University President underscores the institution’s clear support for this scientific path and reinforces the university’s role as an active academic institution in major national issues, particularly in the preservation of architectural heritage and the transformation of reconstruction experiences into solid academic knowledge suitable for teaching and further development.

This lecture reaffirmed that Al-Hadba Minaret was not rebuilt with stone alone, but was reconstructed through a scientific methodology, institutional partnership, and a vision that respects history while looking toward the future.
