2025-11-04
A scientific field visit for third-year students to the Qayyarah Gas Power Station.
2025-11-04The Quality Assurance and Performance Division organizes a seminar titled: “Fibers and Natural Materials as Eco-Friendly Alternatives Toward More Sustainable Industries.”
Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University and Dean of the Engineering Technical College / Mosul, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and in cooperation with the University’s Department of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance, and as part of the Sustainable Development Activities for the academic year 2025–2026, the Quality Assurance and Performance Division held a seminar titled:
“Fibers and Natural Materials as Eco-Friendly Alternatives Toward More Sustainable Industries.”
The seminar discussed the role of natural fibers in environmentally friendly industries, introducing their definition, types, properties, importance, benefits, and applications. The presentation highlighted their significant potential as sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic fibers. When combined with resin materials, natural fibers enhance the strength and durability of composite structures, resulting in lightweight, corrosion-resistant, long-lasting, biodegradable, and cost-effective materials easily sourced from nature.
The discussion also addressed the use of natural fibers in producing various goods such as clothing and safe medical products that protect the body and preserve warmth without harmful effects — unlike synthetic fibers derived from petroleum or fossil fuels, which are expected to deplete in the near future.
Seminar Speaker:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thamer Aoun Al-Din Mohammed
🎯 Objectives of the Seminar:
-
Encourage research on natural fibers and explore their mechanical properties to employ them as suitable alternatives to synthetic fibers.
-
Train engineering and technical staff from government and private factories, as well as universities and educational institutions, on modern testing methods for the mechanical and chemical properties of natural fibers and the optimal use of testing devices.
-
Establish factories specialized in forming metallic structures for various devices and manufacturing spare parts for testing equipment of all kinds, aiming to provide productive and research centers that promote the use of natural fibers as alternatives to synthetic ones, create job opportunities, boost local production, compete with developed countries, support the national economy, and reduce import dependency and unemployment rates.
-
Dispatch advanced engineering personnel to leading international companies and institutions to learn about the latest technologies in natural fiber testing and production, and transfer this technology for use in local industrial and production institutions.
