The opinion board in the Ministry of Education holds an extraordinary meeting and votes on expansion and revision decisions, their restrictions, and the contract file

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research held an extraordinary meeting of the opinion board, in the presence of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hakim Al-Tamil.

At the beginning of his speech, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdel-Saheb, called on the Iraqi parliament to increase the number of specialized government universities to accommodate the increased outputs, allocate plots of land for university professors, and higher education affiliates, address the file of appointments to higher education institutions, review the retirement law, especially about university professors, and monitor Sufficient funds to meet the requirements of scientific research, complete and maintain university infrastructure, and allocate a special budget for importing laboratory equipment.

He added that the general situation requires positive integration between the legislative and executive authorities and the formulation of determinants and figures that serve the course and objectives of the public interest, pointing out at the same time that Iraqi universities need to support their academic orientation based on a commitment to scientific and legal contexts.

In turn, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Hakim Al-Zamili, expressed his pride in Iraqi universities and their scientific contribution to development projects, stressing that representatives of the legislative authority are serious about supporting higher education and scientific research institutions, noting at the same time that the Iraqi parliament is moving towards a new stage in legislation and follow-up.

The meeting discussed the topics on the agenda and voted affirmatively on each of the following:

🔴 Approval of a final expansion regarding postgraduate seats for the academic year 2022/2021 with two seats for the general channel, three seats for the private admission channel, and one seat for the categories channel.

🔴 The return of Al-Marqna their restrictions from last year’s students in the finished stages exclusively, and the resumption of their work in the next school year.

🔴 Emphasizing the need to include the file of contracts for 315 institutions in higher education and scientific research in the federal budget for 2022.

After the meeting, the First Representative, Hakim Al-Zamili, thanked and appreciated the Minister of Higher Education and members of the opinion board for addressing the demands presented, stressing that the House of Representatives will give impetus and positive support to institutions of education, higher education, and scientific research, especially on the issue of the budget and the retirement file for teachers through important legislation that would provide the necessary support, while the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research renewed the demand to support university professors and provide them with the requirements of a decent living by allocating residential plots that befit their role in society.
