Northern Technical University organizes an educational symposium on human trafficking crimes…
in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Aliaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the Peaceful Coexistence Unit organized a symposium on combating human trafficking crimes. A large number of university students and members attended this symposium . The university’s guest, Judge Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Ali Al-Harithi, Vice President of the Nineveh Court of Appeal, presented important topics about the origins of these crimes, which are considered obtrusive crimes on Iraqi society, specifying their types, such as begging, prostitution networks, theft of human organs, and trade in immigrants through illegal immigration, pointing to poverty and ignorance as one of the most important reasons for the occurrence of these crimes in which most of their victims are children and women.
The judge also mentioned the Iraqi Law No. 28 of 2012, which specified the most severe penalties against the perpetrators of these crimes may reach the death penalty and life imprisonment for anyone who commits a crime against others that leads to their death… calling for working together, including educational institutions, security agencies, civil society organizations, and families , to combat the effects of these crimes and end them in our society.

At the end of the session, Professor Dr. Thanoun Younis Thanoun, Assistant to the University President for Administrative Affairs, and Professor Dr. Samir Taha Yassin, Dean of the Administrative Technical College and a representative of the University President, honored the Vice President of the Nineveh Court of Appeal, with a certificate of appreciation and the university’s shield as in appreciation of his efforts in spreading community awareness to combat the Negativity phenomena in our society.

It is worth mentioning that the Peaceful Coexistence Unit developed a strategy to combat this crime under the slogan: “Stop human trafficking crimes.” which included the colleges and institutes in Mosul and Kirkuk through holding seminars and workshops and distributing introductory brochures that address the dangers of these heinous crimes.
