Experimental analysis of embedded shear connectors in Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) using push-out tests.

The Northern Technical University Discusses the Experimental Analysis of Embedded Shear Connectors in Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) Through Static Push-Out Tests

The Technical Engineering College / Mosul has examined a technical master’s thesis in the specialization of Construction Materials Engineering Technologies, entitled:
“Experimental Analysis of Embedded Shear Connectors in Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) Through Static Push-Out Tests.”

The thesis, submitted by the researcher Abubakr Thaer Abdulhaq Ahmed, investigated the behavior and characteristics of composite systems that utilize Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) instead of Normal Concrete (NC). The primary objective of the study is to enhance the seismic performance and durability of composite structures at critical shear connection zones.

The study aimed to improve the seismic performance of composite structures by replacing normal concrete with ECC, a material with significantly higher tensile ductility. The brittleness of normal concrete weakens the ability of composite systems to effectively dissipate energy or maintain structural integrity under high seismic loads.

The thesis recommended the use of ECC particularly in steel–concrete composite structures exposed to seismic or dynamic loads. The incorporation of ECC improves ductility, enhances crack control, and increases energy absorption capacity, thereby improving the safety and durability of structures.

The examination committee consisted of:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Hisham Abdul-Latif Noaman — Chair
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mohammed Ahmed — Member
  • Lecturer Dr. Mohammed Adnan Basheer — Member
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Muthanna Adel Najm — Member and Supervisor
