Under the patronage of the esteemed President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Aliya Abbas Al-Attar,
the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies at the Technical Engineering College / Mosul launched today a specialized workshop entitled “Safety Procedures at Construction Sites” for fourth-year students, presented by the instructor Asst. Lecturer Fares Jihad Thiyab.
The workshop aims to enhance students’ professional competence before entering the labor market by equipping them with construction safety skills, understanding common risks at construction sites, and learning prevention and control mechanisms, in addition to identifying personal protective equipment (PPE) and understanding the responsibilities of engineers and supervisors in implementing safety standards.
The workshop covered several practical topics, including:
- Identifying hazards at construction sites.
- Prevention and control procedures.
- Safety equipment (PPE) and proper usage.
- Responsibilities of the engineer and site supervisor.
- Case studies from real construction projects.
The workshop witnessed notable interaction from students through applied discussions on safety standards in local projects. Students who pass the final assessment will receive official certificates that enhance their professional portfolios.
This workshop comes as part of the department’s plan to strengthen the practical component and align students’ skills with labor market requirements. At the conclusion of the event, the Head of the Department extended his appreciation to the presenter and the organizing committee, affirming the department’s commitment to continuing specialized workshops that keep pace with developments in the engineering sector.
