The Technical Institute of Kirkuk organizes a workshop entitled (Commandments and Guidelines for Dealing with Earthquakes)

Under the auspices of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Aashti Mahdi Aref, and in the presence of the members of the liaison of the scientific departments, the self-committees and the heads of the scientific departments, teachers and technicians, the Women’s Empowerment Committee at the Institute and in cooperation with the people (media, public relations, security, and follow-up) organized
In coordination with the Kirkuk Civil Defense Directorate, a workshop on (commandments and guidelines for dealing with earthquakes)
Presented at the workshop:

  • Colonel Rami Sahib Ghaib (Director of the Safety and Fire Department)
  • Captain Omar Hassan (from the Directorate of Civil Defense)
  • Teacher Ghada Hassan (teacher at the institute)
    I took the workshop
    The most important commandments and instructions for dealing with earthquakes:
    1- Evacuate homes and residential buildings immediately and park in empty yards.
    2- Keep away from the glass windows at a safe distance when evacuating the houses.
    3- Never climb on the roofs of houses and various buildings.
    4- Staying away from the external fences of the roofs of houses, balconies, various roofs, and billboards hanging on tall buildings.
    5- Stay away from poles, electric wires, and tall, stiff trees.
    6- In the event of collapses, especially in tall buildings ((God forbid)), stay away from them as much as possible in anticipation of serial collapses.
    7- Stopping the wheels and dismounting from them, not panicking, and avoiding standing at the top and bottom of bridges, tall buildings, or tunnels.
    8- State department employees must be calm, not panic when evacuating their departments, and not rush to the exits.
    The workshop aimed to:
    Defining an earthquake or an earthquake as a natural phenomenon that includes a shaking or a series of tremors of the ground resulting from the movement of rocky plates at the epicenter (the focus) followed by rebounds called seismic waves.
    The attendees interacted with what was presented in the workshop and expressed their observations and interventions, enriching it and contributing valuable information to the workshop.
