The Technical Institute / Kirkuk organizes a scientific workshop within the program to support energy and reduce emissions, entitled “Sustainability in Buildings”

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Ashti Mahdi Aref, Dean of the Technical Institute / Kirkuk, the Quality Assurance and University Performance Division, in cooperation with the Department of Civil Technologies at the Institute, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Sustainability in Buildings.” The lecture was delivered by Mr. Salah El-Din Najm El-Din Majid (Assistant Teacher).

The workshop dealt with the concept of sustainable architecture as part of sustainable development, which is defined as (meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs).

Talking about sustainable architecture/buildings has become commonplace in the engineering professional circles, coinciding with the growing concern about the negative effects of the built environment on the environmental state of our planet, in addition to the exacerbating economic challenges as a result of the high costs of energy and building materials, so the professionals themselves have adopted Experimenting with alternative energy sources Develop techniques to reduce energy consumption in buildings, reduce waste and solid, liquid and gaseous pollutants, in addition to developing new materials and methods for design, implementation, operation, and maintenance.

The workshop aims to introduce sustainable buildings and explain their most important benefits while looking for the possibility of implementing such projects in our local environment.

The workshop came out with several conclusions, including:

  • Sustainable buildings will contribute to solving many problems related to energy and the environment during the coming decades if the efforts of institutions and individuals join in the conviction that a sustainable natural environment is best for us and for future generations.
  • The investment in green buildings may be more expensive, but it will benefit the health and life of the person in general.
