The President of the Northern Technical University attended part of a master’s thesis defense discussing the mechanical performance of developed sustainable concrete.
In the presence of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alyaa Abbas Al-Attar, the Technical Engineering College / Mosul discussed a master’s thesis in Construction Materials Engineering Technologies entitled:
Mechanical Performance of Sustainable Rubberized HPC Incorporating Recycled Tire Aggregates for Resilient Infrastructure
The thesis, submitted by the researcher Zainab Abduljabbar Ibrahim, presented the development of high-performance and sustainable engineered cementitious concrete (ECC) using recycled tire rubber, with the incorporation of PVA fibers, micro steel fibers, and polymer latex material (SAC), aiming to improve the properties of conventional concrete and address its vulnerability to cracking and brittleness.
The thesis aimed to:
Improve the mechanical performance, flexibility, crack resistance, and energy absorption capacity of concrete.
Enhance environmental sustainability through recycling tire waste and reducing the environmental impact of industrial waste.
Achieve optimal additive proportions that provide the best balance between strength and workability.
The thesis concluded with several recommendations, including:
The possibility of adopting high-performance rubberized concrete in structures exposed to dynamic loads and earthquakes due to its high crack resistance.
The necessity of determining the optimal proportions of additives to achieve a balance between strength and flexibility.
Encouraging the use of hybrid fibers and recycled rubber to enhance sustainability and reduce maintenance costs.
Conducting future studies on durability and long-term behavior under various environmental conditions.
