Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at the Presidency of the Northern Technical University and in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Division and the Accounting Techniques Department) the Kirkuk, Technical Institute organized a scientific symposium entitled (The Role of Environmental Accounting in Sustainable Development)

This symposium dealt with the concept of sustainable development as one of the most important goals of countries to preserve natural resources, reduce product costs, and preserve the environment from the harmful effects of industrial activities. And allocating environmental costs that must be taken into account when making administrative decisions to communicate information related to knowing the impact of the company’s products, services, and activities on stakeholders (shareholders and bondholders, unit boards of directors, and reducing and eliminating environmental pollution to obtain a clean environment free of pollution).

The symposium showed that sustainable development that takes into account not only the welfare of current generations, but the welfare of future generations as well, where welfare is clearly defined and takes into account all possibilities of technical substitution between capital goods, and all the obstacles posed by limited resources and environmental costs of production and consumers.

The policies of disclosing environmental information have become one of the most important elements of environmental accounting to promote sustainable development in the industrial sector in particular and other sectors in general in most countries of the world, as oil refining companies must primarily disclose information related to products, consumers, employees, and community participation as well as These companies must disclose information critically and measurably.

The symposium aimed to clarify the idea and concept of sustainable development, which is one of the most important goals of countries to preserve natural resources, reduce product costs, and preserve the environment from the harmful effects of industrial activities, and since accounting is a social science, it was necessary to develop this science to comply with modern trends.
