The College of Engineering organizes a seminar entitled “Environmental Assessment Systems”

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Sami Reda Aslan, Dean of the Technical College of Engineering, Kirkuk, and within the activities of the sustainability program of the Quality Assurance Department at the Northern Technical University, the Department of Surveying Engineering Techniques, in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Division and the Women Empowerment Committee in Kirkuk Technical College of Engineering, a seminar entitled Environmental Assessment Systems.

The lecture was delivered in the seminar by Dr. Nada Sobhi Abdel Meguid, Head of the Surveying Techniques Engineering Department and a liaison member of the Women Empowerment Committee at the Technical College of Engineering.

The seminar aimed to discuss important concepts related to the environmental reality in Iraq, including the concept of sustainable development in terms of its objectives, components, dimensions, and general areas of application, and to study the most important goals related to the environmental reality, as well as the concept of sustainable environmental development and sustainable development of hydropower in Iraq, and the sustainability of the tourism environment and its role in limiting from the pollution of the marshes of southern Iraq.

The seminar included a discussion of the cultural importance of the Marshes of southern Iraq as a world heritage site, and the requirements for evaluating the impact of natural determinants on land use for the districts of Hatra and Ba’aj in Nineveh Governorate using GIS techniques.

The seminar aimed at the concept of the impact of environmental degradation on achieving sustainable development and the current vision of sustainable development in Iraq, discussing the most important weaknesses that the environmental reality suffers from, finding solutions and the need to emphasize joint action in cooperation with the relevant ministries.
