President of Northern Technical University Participates in PhD Defense as Part of International Academic Collaboration.

The President of Northern Technical University has taken part in a PhD thesis defense within the framework of international academic cooperation.
In continuation of the university’s ongoing achievements, and in line with its commitment to strengthening international academic presence and activating partnerships with global universities, the President of Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alya’a Abbas Ali Al-Attar, has maintained her active role in supporting the scientific community and participating in international research activities, despite her administrative and academic responsibilities.
Prof. Dr. Alya’a Abbas Ali Al-Attar participated in the PhD defense of the student Omar Saber Khalaf in the field of Material Science at the University of Sopron, Hungary. The dissertation was entitled: “Analysis of Water Vapor Diffusion in Structural Wood Adhesive Bond.”
The thesis examined the effects of moisture on the use of wood in structural materials, focusing on the behavior of water vapor diffusion through adhesive bonds and analyzing its impact on adhesive performance and the generation of internal stresses within wooden systems. The study also aimed to develop adhesive materials capable of adapting to humidity variations, thereby enhancing the durability and efficiency of wood in modern structural applications.
The examination committee consisted of:
Prof. Dr. Alpar Tibor — Chair
Prof. Dr. Kovács Zsolt — Member and Examiner
Prof. Dr. Alya’a Al-Attar — Member and Examiner
Prof. Dr. Divós Ferenc — Member and Examiner
Dr. Bejó László — Member and Director of the Doctoral School
Dr. Garab Jozsef — Member
Dr. Csilla Csiha — Member and Supervisor
Ms. Tolvaj Vera — Committee Coordinator
At the conclusion of the defense, the candidate was awarded the degree of Summa Cum Laude, the highest academic distinction, in recognition of his outstanding research efforts and valuable scientific contribution in the field of material science and structural engineering. His academic excellence was further demonstrated by publishing (12) scientific papers during his doctoral studies, including (5) papers in Q1-ranked journals indexed in Scopus and Elsevier, all derived from his dissertation work.
This achievement reflects the depth of scientific collaboration between Northern Technical University and the University of Sopron, and underscores the continued support for postgraduate students in their academic and research journeys toward excellence and leadership.
