Northern Technical University Organizes Seminar on Family Cohesion and Causes of Rising Divorce Rates

Under the auspices of the President of Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alya Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the Women’s Affairs Division at the university, in cooperation with the Nineveh Court of Appeal Presidency, organized a seminar titled “Family Cohesion and the Real Causes of the Spread of Divorce Rates”.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Al-Hareethi, Judge and Deputy President of the Nineveh Court of Appeal. It addressed three main topics:
The importance of the family in society and its role in the social system as the primary cell that makes up society and the general framework that determines the behavior of individuals and shapes their lives. It also discussed the modern educational and biological functions of the family and the factors that lead to family success.
The challenges facing family stability, represented by weak family communication, divergent ideas and interests, and the family’s neglect of its upbringing role. It also touched on the characteristics of a healthy family, such as mutual respect between its members, lack of authoritarianism, a sense of security, and enjoyment of the time spent together.
The negative international paths in undermining the family by using the human rights file (an ideological weapon) raised by the Western camp towards Eastern societies, as well as the infiltration of radical feminist thought into the headquarters of the United Nations and its institutions and its role in formulating charters that include many values that are incompatible with our societal values.
The second part of the seminar, presented by the social researcher Najla Othman Kamal El-Din, discussed the real causes of the spread of divorce rates and its consequences, as well as ways to reduce them. This has recently led to an increase in divorce cases due to lack of compatibility between people and differences in their environment. Additionally, the ages of those getting married are very young, and they lack understanding of marital life, leading to divorce.
In conclusion, the seminar included recommendations for preserving family cohesion, such as launching media campaigns on social media to educate youth and enlighten those about to get married about the duties and rights of spouses, activating the role of civil society organizations in raising awareness about the dangers of divorce and its negative impact on children and society, continuous and proper preparation of religious imams and preachers to raise family awareness and explain marital stability to married couples, and establishing psychological and social clinics to evaluate those about to get married and follow up with them, especially when conflicts occur.
