Mosul Technical Institute organizes a scientific course on “Slaughter around hydraulic installations”

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Shahla Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Qader, Dean of the Technical Institute of Mosul
The Department of Surveying Techniques held a scientific course entitled (Slaughter on Hydraulic Structures), in the presence of the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Raghad Ghalib Al-Sultan, and several associates
Lectures in the course:
Dr. Adnan Abdel Wahab Ismail
The course dealt with:
The use of a small diameter for successive struts is more efficient in reducing erosion compared to using one large strut, as well as changing the direction of flow has an effect in reducing local erosion.
The course indicated:
The depth of local erosion around the bridge abutment decreases as the diameter of the opening in the abutment body increases and increases as the diameter of the bridge abutment increases and the distance between successive supports decreases.
The course aimed to:
Reducing local erosion around the base of the bridge abutment by combining two types of treatments:

  1. By increasing the number of bridge supports in a series parallel to the direction of flow to reduce the area of their cross-section and then the percentage of contraction that it causes in the duct.
  2. Making tubular holes in the stent body as a method to change the flow and divert part of it to the back of the stent through the opening, thus reducing the momentum in front of the stent.
The course came out with several recommendations, including the use of several methods to reduce local erosion, including the use of the collar to reduce the effect of water momentum that will hit the pillar.
And conducting a study using non-cylindrical supports, which can achieve a lower depth of erosion.
