Smart Solar-Powered Irrigation: A First-Year Student Project from the Department of Cloud Computing and Internet of Things Engineering

Under the patronage of the President of the University, Professor Dr. Alyaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and supervised by the Dean of the Technical College of Engineering for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Ibrahim Dalal Bashi, and within the university’s directives to enhance practical and applied learning, first-year students from the Department of Cloud Computing and Internet of Things Engineering implemented an outstanding applied project entitled “Smart Irrigation Using Solar Cells.” This project exemplifies the transition from theoretical knowledge to practical application.

The project involved planting a variety of plants in the college courtyard, alongside designing and implementing a smart irrigation system powered by solar energy. The system automatically operates irrigation pumps and controls the watering process based on soil moisture levels and the specific needs of the plants.

The project aims to optimize water and energy consumption, reduce operational costs, and preserve the environment by using solar energy as a clean and renewable source, contributing to smart and sustainable agricultural solutions.

This initiative aligns with the university leadership’s objectives to strengthen practical learning, develop students’ skills in Internet of Things and sustainable energy technologies, and encourage innovative projects that serve the community.
