Mosul Technical Institute holds a symposium on (pre-marital examinations and their importance)

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Shahla Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Qader, Dean of the Mosul Technical Institute, the Department of Medical Laboratory Technologies organized a symposium on premarital examinations and their importance.

It was attended by a number of the department’s employees and students.
The seminar dealt with:
The most important routine and non-routine laboratory tests that are required to be performed before marriage, including tests for thalassemia, anemia, and tests for viral hepatitis
As well as other non-routine examinations that may be requested by one of the parties to ensure the health of the other party.
The seminar indicated:
There are still customs in Iraqi society, which as the marriage of relatives, knowing that the family history indicates the presence of hereditary diseases, but these customs and traditions remain to dominate the society without paying attention to what may cause health problems during childbirth.
The seminar aimed to:
Urging those who are about to get married to undergo the required laboratory tests to avoid reproductive problems and genetic diseases
The seminar came out with several recommendations, including:
Given the health and family problems resulting from the marriage of relatives or carriers of genetic diseases, it is therefore recommended to conduct blood tests to avoid transmission of diseases and hemoglobin blood tests to avoid the transmission of thalassemia through genetic factors from parents to children.
