Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at the Presidency of the University, in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Division and the Department of Chemical Industries Technologies at the Kirkuk Technical Institute, organized a scientific symposium entitled (Renewable Energy and its Role in Environmental Protection and as a Tool for Sustainable Development)

This symposium dealt with the role of renewable energies in reducing and eliminating environmental pollution to obtain a clean environment free of pollution.

The symposium indicated that the Iraqi cities, especially the city of Kirkuk, suffer from a large percentage of environmental pollution, which resulted from many environmental factors, including the presence of oil and gas companies in the north, a cement plant, and large car congestion, in addition to the presence of a huge amount of waste throughout the country, which led to a high rate of environmental pollution.

The trend was toward interest in renewable energies to achieve clean environmental sustainability free of pollution. The concept of renewable energy is that it is energy that is constantly renewed and that its source is from one of the natural resources, such as wind, water, the sun, and green vital sources. It also does not play a significant role in the level of temperatures. Renewable energy sources are in complete contradiction with their non-renewable sources such as natural gas and fossil fuels, as these sources lead to the global warming phenomenon. And due to the increase in human consumption of energy day after day and under the pressure of the expectation that the production stock of fuel will decrease During the coming years and the rise in its prices in the world, the need to use other energy alternatives arose, and renewable energy.

The symposium aims to know the role of renewable energy on the environment and its protection from pollution

The symposium concluded the need to pay attention to benefit from all available alternative energy sources throughout Iraq by encouraging the application of scientific research in renewable energy and turning it into huge pioneering projects that contribute to solving all problems, including environmental and economic, and political ones.
