Hawija Technical Institute organizes an online workshop on disease vectors and limiting their spread

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Omar Khalil Ahmed, Dean of the Institute, the Department of Medical Laboratory Technologies organized an electronic workshop and through the (Meet) application on (organisms that transmit diseases and how to limit their spread)

The lecture was delivered by:

  • Teacher Fadela Salman Azeez
  • Teacher Dr. Luqman Hussain Ali

The workshop was attended by a number of the institute’s employees.

The workshop dealt with:

  • Defining disease vectors
  • The severity of vector-borne diseases
  • Disease-carrying insects
  • pest control
  • Prevention of diseases caused by mosquitoes
  • Important tips to get rid of insects.

The workshop indicated that eliminating insects, especially mosquitoes, flies, and other vectors, is one of the most important things to be followed to reduce these transmitted diseases.

The workshop aimed to follow the most important health and preventive methods to limit the spread of these diseases.

The workshop came out with the following recommendations:

  1. Controlling insects and the locations of their larvae by spraying with appropriate pesticides.
  2. Backfilling of ponds and swamps, disposal of waste, and preventing its accumulation.
  3. Wearing long-sleeved clothes, covering the legs in places where insects are infested, and using repellent creams.
  4. Putting nets narrow openings on doors and windows to prevent the entry of insects.
  5. In the case of the use of mosquito nets to sleep outside the house.
  6. Cover the water tanks tightly.
  7. Removal of potential water gathering places such as old car tires, planting beds, and unused equipment in general.
  8. Avoid traveling to places where insect-borne diseases are prevalent as much as possible and are sure to receive anti-vaccines or medicines to prevent them in the event of a need to travel, such as yellow fever or malaria, for example.
  9. Paying attention to the cleanliness of the barns and the animals that are raised in them.
