Hawija Technical Institute organizes a combined course on “Unconventional Cutting Techniques…

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Omar Khalil Ahmed, Dean of the Institute, the Department of Mechanical Technologies organized an integrated course “electronic through the application (Meet) and an in-person” course on “unconventional cutting techniques”.

The lecture was delivered by:

  • Teacher Ahmed Mohamed Abbas.
  • Teacher Qusai Kamel Jassem.

It was attended by a number of the institute’s employees.

The course dealt with the history of traditional cutting operations and its importance at the beginning of the industrial revolution and its later development in the civil and military field, then moving to mechanical operations by unconventional methods due to the consumer’s need in the field of the space industry and precision industries in medical devices and limb implants.

The course showed the need for diversity in cutting methods in response to modern applications and their entry into many engineering fields because of their ability to cut very hard materials and alloys that are resistant to heat and scratches in molds and aircraft engines.

The course aimed to get acquainted with USM ultrasonic cutting methods, water cutting, and abrasive grains.

The session came out with the following recommendations:

  1. Seeking to set up other courses in the field of other cutting operations.
  2. Encouraging students to be acquainted with these methods in the manufacturing subject.
  3. Seeking to set up courses in automated CAD/CAM cutting operations, and to hold a symposium defining the development of the industry for the fourth generation called Industry4.0
