Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Technical Institute, Al-Dur, the Prosthetics Department at the Institute organized a course entitled “The extent of the damage caused by Leishmaniasis in its three genders” and at the Al-Khwarizmi Hall at the Institute, he delivered:

Assistant Professor Dr. Maqsoud Adel Mahmoud, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs. It was attended by a number of the institute’s employees

The course aimed to spread health awareness of the dangers of Leishmaniasis, the insect that carries it, and its storage hosts such as dogs and rodents.

The session dealt with the following topics:

The first axis :

1. Identify the parasite that causes Leishmaniasis and the life cycle of each of them
2. Recognize the importance of the biological vector, which is the sand fly, in completing the life cycle of Leishmania
3. Addressing the medical and economic damage caused by Leishmaniasis.
4. Addressing the psychological damage to the patient with the Baghdad pill, or what is known as cutaneous Leishmaniasis.

The second axis:

1. The necessity of interrupting the life cycle of the parasite to eliminate it
2. The necessity of eliminating the biological carrier or treating it and immunizing it
3. The necessity of destroying the environment of the biological carrier

The third axis

1. Develop a comprehensive plan for the eradication of each type of Leishmaniasis.
2. Treating the infected and immunizing individuals.
3. The necessity of cooperation between higher education and health departments in forming teams to eradicate the Leishmania parasite.

The session indicated:

The necessity of combating the worm bug (sand fly), as well as combating storage hosts such as rodents and loose dogs.
