The Global Rankings Monitoring Unit at Northern Technical University is a strategic unit affiliated with the University Presidency. It was established to support the university’s efforts in achieving prominent positions within prestigious international academic rankings, such as the Times Higher Education (THE), QS World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and UI GreenMetric, among others.
The unit aims to enhance the university’s regional and international standing by collecting, analyzing, and verifying academic, research, and administrative data, and by providing recommendations to improve institutional performance in line with global quality standards. It also coordinates with all university departments to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data submitted for international rankings.
These efforts are overseen by the President of the University, Professor Dr. Aliaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, who leads the team at the University Presidency to achieve the goals of the university’s strategic plan in the field of global rankings.

Key Responsibilities of the Global Rankings Monitoring Unit
Monitoring global university rankings and keeping track of the specific standards and requirements of each recognized international ranking system, such as THE, QS, ARWU, UI GreenMetric, and others.
Collecting and analyzing data related to the university’s academic, research, administrative, and environmental performance in coordination with all university departments.
Preparing and updating official ranking files and submitting them on time to the relevant ranking authorities.
Coordinating with colleges, departments, and research centers to accurately and transparently provide required indicators and data.
Issuing periodic reports that present the university’s position in various rankings, identifying performance gaps, and offering improvement recommendations.
Raising awareness of global rankings culture among faculty and staff through seminars, workshops, and informative publications.
Contributing to the development of the university’s strategic plans related to international ranking requirements and institutional development.
Building centralized databases containing key indicators related to education, research, societal impact, and sustainability.
Following up on global ranking surveys to ensure accurate and institutionally consistent responses.
Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned with the goals of international rankings and monitoring their achievement.

Achieving an advanced position in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2025 in the field of Petroleum Engineering, ranking within the 151–175 band globally.
Progress in the UI GreenMetric Ranking for 2024, where the university ranked 371st globally out of 1,183 universities.
