The Technical Institute of Mosul organized a seminar titled “Smoking, Its Harmful Effects, and Its Impact on Individual and Community Health”…

under the sponsorship of Dr. Aliaa Abbas Al-Attar, the President of Northern Technical University, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Shahla Abdulwahab Abdulqader, the Dean of the Technical Institute of Mosul, and the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Fadel Haddad, the Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques. The Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques held a seminar for students on the topic of smoking and its harmful effects on individual and community health. The seminar was presented by Mr. Ali Younis Saleh and Mr. Jalal Mohammed Zahdi.
The seminar addressed the impact of smoking on individuals and the community, as it has an adverse effect on human health, causing lung cancer and respiratory diseases, as well as a decrease in the amount of oxygen in the blood, which negatively affects heart function. It also causes arterial narrowing. Non-smokers are also indirectly exposed to smoking, especially in enclosed places such as cafes, restaurants, or even in public transportation such as taxis, buses, and others.
Recommendations:
To limit the spread of this phenomenon, which has a negative impact on individuals and the community, the state must distribute posters or advertisements on the subject of smoking and its effects on individuals and the community, in addition to raising awareness about this issue and providing designated smoking areas.
