Under the guidance of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and under the supervision and presence of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Rafi Mahmoud, the Division of Controlling the Handling of Hazardous and Toxic Chemical and Biological Substances – and in cooperation with
Department of Media and Government Communication and the Central CBRN Committee at the University Presidency – Celebrating the International Day for Safety and under the slogan “Hand in Hand towards a Safe and Peaceful Society”.
The celebration aimed to spread a culture of awareness of the importance of commitment to providing safety requirements and adherence to applying its procedures in a way that contributes to the elimination of potential accidents and injuries within the field of work. Your Voluntary Safety, which was formed under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Sama Adnan Raouf, in charge of the Chemicals Handling Division, and Assistant Professor Dr. Fawaz Fadel Ali, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department and a member of the CBRN Committee.
The volunteer team included a group of our university students from different scientific disciplines who were trained on the basics of first aid and important civil defense steps to control accidents of all kinds, in addition to carrying out field practices in cooperation with the Nineveh Civil Defense Directorate, as well as producing a documentary film showing the process of evacuating and treating a scientific laboratory A chemical has been spilled. The work culminated in the launch of the safety indicative site within the Northern Technical University website in cooperation with the Calculator Center at the university presidency and the Nineveh Civil Defense Directorate. This step is the first of its kind in Nineveh Governorate and Iraq in terms of linking government institutions with each other through the university’s website to facilitate work and ensure a speedy response.
At the end of the celebration, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the members of your safety team and to the gentlemen responsible for training the team from the Directorate of Civil Defense and the Iraqi Red Crescent Society and the head of the nursing techniques department at the Medical Technical Institute, as well as defining the tenth day of May as a special day for the university to celebrate Safety Day.
