Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the Women’s Empowerment Unit, and the Legal Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Department of Media and Public Relations, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Divorce is the scourge of the times.”
The seminar dealt with:
The most important reasons leading to the spread of the phenomenon of divorce, which the participants agreed on the reasons:

1. Infidelity.
2. Bad use of social media.
3. Underage marriage.
4. Bad economic conditions
5. Incompetence between spouses.
6. Alcohol and drug addiction
7. Parents interfere negatively in the lives of the spouses.
   In the end, the symposium came out with several recommendations, including:

The necessity of activating the role of civil society institutions (family organizations, charitable societies, places of worship, universities) in preserving family unity, educating spouses to respect marital rights between them, and spreading lofty values ​​among members of society with the importance of the family as the basic building block in building society.
   2 Obliging those who are about to get married to enter educational courses on marital rights and duties, focusing on the means that help family stability and how to manage family crises, and making these courses one of the formal conditions for contracting marriage because of their importance and a preventive measure in preserving the family entity and reducing the phenomenon of divorce. These courses are organized Through specialized research centers in Iraqi universities and cooperation with the Supreme Judicial Council.
9. Regulating the use and use of social media by Sharia and legal controls, due to its negative impact on marital life in the event of its misuse by one or both spouses, as it is one of the reasons for the spread of the phenomenon of divorce. Double-edged.
