2022-02-21Under the guidance and patronage of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, and on the occasion of the International Day of the Internet, the Department of Media and Public Relations at the Presidency of the University, in cooperation with the Community Police in Nineveh Governorate, organized a panel discussion on electronic extortion and its dangers, in which Colonel Abdullah Hussein Muhammad, Director of the Community Police Division, explained what Electronic blackmail, its types and causes, the improper use of “social networking” sites, and the absence of a supervisory role for some families of the victims.
As well as high unemployment rates contributed to the rise in societal crimes. He stressed that the electronic blackmail operations in Iraq have reached the levels of trafficking in human organs and the sale of women.
Lt. Col. Hazem Najm Abdullah, Associate Director, explained that the increase in the number was caused by the use of smart devices and means of communication and that electronic extortion has become a serious threat to the fabric of Iraqi society.
Noting that electronic extortion in Iraq caused 3 risks that affected society, represented by high divorce rates, suicide rates, and levels of domestic violence. Mrs. Hanaa Ahmed Jassim, Head of the Women’s Unit in the Community Police, indicated that electronic extortion of all kinds in Iraq has increased remarkably from 5 years ago until now. But it is also remarkable that the most common blackmail is the blackmail of girls.
Mr. Rami Elias Samaan, head of the Anti-Rumors Department, explained that rumors have become a large space in our Iraqi society in particular, and presented a set of strict laws to curb abuses and electronic extortion. On the authority of the President of the University, the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Thanoon Yonis Thanoon, honored the Director of Community Police, Nineveh Branch, and the lecturers from the Community Police.
