Northern Technical University organizes a community cultural initiative entitled “Bridges of Peace”

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, the Peaceful Coexistence Unit, in cooperation with the Al-Khaymah Foundation for Sustainable Development and Peacebuilding and Al-Hamdaniya University, organized a community cultural initiative entitled: “Bridges of Peace”. A number of students from both universities and various components participated in the initiative, which was hosted by the Monastery of the Martyrs Bahnam and Sarah, located in the Nimrud district. The initiative included a training workshop during which humanitarian concepts were presented that enhance community cohesion and training on how to make collective decisions and think for the benefit of the group, move away from the ego, recognize the other, and instill trust through building good human relations. The students were received by Father Mazen Isho, the head of the monastery, who led the participants from both universities on a historical tour of the monastery’s corridors, speaking at length about its artistic engravings and unique architectural style, in addition to the time periods in which this great historical landmark was exposed to destruction throughout its time stages, as its construction age is approximately 1600 years… The initiative also included a visit to the Bakhdida Museum of Syriac Heritage, located in the town of Al-Hamdaniya. Then it concluded with an awareness campaign led by our university graduates participating in the campaign and members of the volunteer tent team to reduce suicide cases by distributing brochures in Qaraqosh markets. It is worth noting that the campaign was organized on the sidelines of the educational guidance week that will be organized in late November and a number of members of the two universities participated in it, led by Dr. Mumtaz and Dr. Raghad from Al-Hamdaniya University and from our university Mr. Ashraf Zakir and Muhammad Risan from the Diwan Affairs Department.
