Northern Technical University discusses the numerical investigation of mechanical properties of the composite panel under impact load

In the Technical College of Engineering / Mosul, a higher diploma research project was discussed, specializing in mechanical power engineering techniques, which is tagged “Numerically Investigation for the Mechanical Properties of the Glass Fiber Panel under Indentation Load”.

The project submitted by the student (Lilian Yasser Yassin) examined the use of composite panels, as an alternative to metallic materials, due to their low weights, high rigidity, and preservation of the mechanical and thermal properties of their material components. Where plates (fiberglass / epoxy resin composite) were developed and a study was presented to investigate the innovative composite structure of the plate (fiberglass / composite epoxy resin) after subjecting it to a shock load.

The objective of the project is to apply the load on a composite panel of glass fiber/epoxy resin under the shock load according to international standards to obtain the results of shock energy absorption and plate stress numerically and to analyze the mechanical behavior that shows the possibility of endurance and shock energy absorption of the light metal materials panel and compare it using the Ances program As a numerical simulation assuming that the behavior of the composite is elastic and linear. Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, the Scientific Associate, a number of the department’s professors, and graduate students.  The discussion committee consisted of:

  1. Professor Dr. Haitham Muhammad Waad Allah / Chairman.
  2. Assistant Professor Dr. Imad Touma Matti / member.
  3. The teacher Dr. Thamir Aun Muhammad Sheet, member, and supervisor.
