2022-04-04Kirkuk Technical Institute organizes a scientific workshop within the program to support energy and reduce emissions entitled “Thermal insulation and its importance in reducing energy expenditure”
Under the auspices of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at the Presidency of the University, in cooperation with the Division of Quality Assurance and University Performance and the Department of Power Mechanics Techniques at the Kirkuk Technical Institute, organized a scientific workshop entitled (Thermal insulation and its importance in reducing energy expenditure) delivered the lecture In the workshop, Mr. Soran Jalal Muhammad (Head of Power Mechanics Techniques Department).
The workshop dealt with thermal insulation and its importance in rationalizing electrical energy and heat emissions, and that the energy crisis is one of the most important challenges in the world, and is expected to increase in light of climate changes and their potential effects, such as rising temperatures and thus increasing the demand for energy for cooling and heating purposes, and that the climate changes that the world witnessed, especially Iraq Because of global warming and the accompanying pollution resulting from man’s use of unnatural sources to produce energy, as well as the environmental pollutants emitted by factories and means of transportation, and the adoption of modern construction methods such as the use of reinforced concrete in buildings, all of this led to a noticeable rise in temperatures, which necessitates Building isolation.
The workshop showed the good design of thermal insulation of buildings:
- Contributes to reducing 50% to 70% of the energy consumed in cooling and heating in buildings due to its reduction in heat gain and loss from buildings. Thus, improving the energy efficiency of buildings helps significantly reduce cooling and heating costs and provides comfortable and healthy conditions inside the buildings.
- The percentage of electrical energy consumed in the summer to cool the building is about 66% of the entire energy consumed. Hence, the importance of thermal insulation stems to reduce the consumption of electrical energy used for air conditioning purposes, reducing heat leakage through walls and ceilings to achieving the appropriate functional goal of the dwelling, and reducing cost.
- It contributes to extending the life of the facilities, reducing the cost of their maintenance, and reducing environmental pollution and heat emissions.
- Facilities that consume less energy to operate are considered environmentally friendly.
The workshop aimed to:
Studying the effect of thermal insulation and its importance in rationalizing energy consumption and reducing the burden on power plants, as well as the possibility of keeping homes at an appropriate temperature for a long period, thus reducing the use of air conditioners, which leads to rationalizing the use of electricity and contributes to extending the life of facilities and reduces maintenance costs, environmental pollution and heat emission.
The workshop concluded:
- The use of thermal insulation in buildings helps to rationalize electricity consumption in homes, offices will reduce the rate of electricity use to more than 50%.
- There is no need to use air conditioners with high capacities, so thermal insulation allows using air conditioners with limited capabilities.
- The possibility of keeping homes at an appropriate temperature for a long time and thus will reduce the use of air-conditioning devices, which leads to rationalizing the use of electricity as well as reducing maintenance costs, pollution, and heat emissions.
- Thermal insulation reduces the burden on power plants
