The Department of Oil and Gas Refining Techniques was established in 2025 as one of the academic departments at the Al-Hawija Polytechnic College. It prioritizes the delivery of advanced educational programs that integrate both theoretical and practical components, keeping pace with the continuous advancements in oil and natural gas refining techniques.The establishment of the department was in response to labor market demands for highly qualified technicians capable of operating production units, monitoring industrial processes, and ensuring the implementation of quality, safety, and environmental standards within refining facilities. The department also seeks to build cooperative relationships with institutions in the oil sector and to strengthen field training and applied research, thereby contributing to the development of students’ skills and preparing them for effective integration into the labor market.The department comprises a qualified academic staff committed to enhancing students’ scientific and professional competencies in line with modern developments in oil and natural gas refining Techniques.
Vision
Oil and gas refining is among the most important specializations in the modern era. In this field, students study in depth the methods of refining crude oil and natural gas and extracting their various derivatives. This begins with receiving the crude and transporting it from extraction companies, followed by the removal of impurities, salts, and water, the treatment and disposal of undesirable by-products, and the design of various processing units. It concludes with specialized refineries and the production of different petroleum derivatives, such as fuels of all types, as well as the preparation and production of feedstocks for polymer manufacturing in all its applications, and primary petrochemicals that serve as raw materials for numerous other industries, including solvents, paints, plastics, textiles, and many other petroleum-based products upon which we rely in our daily lives. Our vision is to become a globally distinguished department in the field of oil and gas refining techniques, serving as a hub for innovation and development in the petroleum and gas industry, and contributing to the achievement of environmental and economic sustainability within this sector.
Mission
Qualifying and preparing mid-level technical personnel to work in the fields of oil and gas separation, crude oil refining, and natural gas processing, including the operational control requirements associated with crude oil and its derivatives, as well as conducting laboratory analyses in accordance with standard specifications. The department also supports training and professional development programs within the oil sector by providing competent and highly qualified trainers, in addition to organizing development courses to enhance the capabilities of employees in oil companies.Furthermore, the Department of Oil and Gas Refining Techniques seeks to train and prepare students to become distinguished technicians capable of operating, maintaining, and optimizing oil and gas refining units, and of contributing to the advancement of the industry in accordance with the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.
