Department of Environment and Water Resources Techniques Conducts Workshop on Renewable Energies

The Department of Environmental and Water Resources Techniques hosted a workshop on renewable energies, held under the auspices of Professor Dr. Alia Alattar, President of Northern Technical University, and supervised by Asst. Prof. Shahla Abdulwahab, Dean of Mosul Technical Institute.

The workshop covered several key topics, including:

  1. Types of energy
  2. Statistics on energy consumption in its various forms
  3. The mechanism of power generation stations for each energy source
  4. Renewable energy, its types, and the operation of power plants used for each type
  5. Hydroelectric energy
  6. Types of hydroelectric power plants
  7. Kinetic energy of water, its types, and methods of exploitation
  8. Types of turbines used to generate electricity from the kinetic energy of water
  9. The operating principle of hydraulic turbines

Key Recommendations:

  1. The need to pay attention to water resources in Iraq and utilize them for electricity generation.
  2. The importance of not neglecting the energy of the Tigris River and emphasizing the need for researchers in this field to conduct studies on selecting the appropriate type of turbine to be placed in the Tigris River and studying the amount of energy that can be generated.
  3. Encouraging owners of shops and cafes near the river to establish hydrokinetic energy systems and reduce the pressure on the national electricity grid.
  4. The need for financial and moral support for researchers in the field of sustainable energy and simulation programs used to test the efficiency of turbines.
