About the Department
Forensic science or criminal science is a general term that includes the scientific and technical aspects followed in a scientific systematic manner to collect evidence and examine information that leads in criminology to knowing the cause of the incident. It is a department specialized in providing a cadre responsible for investigating incidents and crimes. It is one of the scientific medical departments at the Hawija Institute / Northern Technical University . Which offers a distinguished educational program that qualifies students after graduation to engage in various fields of work related to forensic and judicial evidence by providing and preparing individuals with high scientific competence in the fields of crime investigation, criminal investigations, fingerprinting, collecting evidence, dealing with it and analyzing it, which leads to the diagnosis of perpetrators on scientific bases that do not accept ambiguity, and how to preserve evidence at the crime scene, take samples from its location, document evidence, and learn how to deal with modern equipment and technologies in the field of specialization, prevent and determine the occurrence of crime, and support courts and public prosecutors with facts based on criminal evidence. In this context and due to the urgent need for this specialization, the Department of Forensic Evidence Techniques was established at the Technical Institute / Al-Hawija to contribute to providing technical staff capable of carrying out the aforementioned tasks, and the first batch of students was accepted for the academic yea2025 .

Preparing a specialized cadre with high scientific competence in the fields of crime investigation, criminal investigations, fingerprinting, evidence collection, handling and analysis, which leads to the identification of perpetrators on unambiguous grounds .

Department objectives
Providing specialized cadres to work in the field of crime investigation and criminal investigations by providing students with knowledge and skills related to crime scenes, criminal recording of incidents, how to take fingerprints, use forensic photography equipment, methods of examining counterfeit currency and official documents, and use of forgery checking kits, in addition to knowledge of poison and drug detection devices and writing reports related to that, and familiarity with information related to explosives and their types and the equipment used to extinguish fires, and knowledge of the basic principles of first aid and the rules for its application .
