A Master’s thesis was conducted at the Technical College/Kirkuk titled: (Molecular Evaluation of Entamoeba gingivalis and Trichomonas tenax parasites in patients with periodontitis and dental caries, and some related risk factors). The thesis discussed the various laboratory methods used for isolating and diagnosing the parasites under study, both microscopically and molecularly.
The thesis aimed to determine the prevalence rate of opportunistic parasites in the patients’ mouths and to draw the relationship between different risk factors such as age, chronic disease, place of residence, and educational level, and the prevalence of parasites. The researcher found that the prevalence rate of opportunistic parasites was higher in males than females and higher in older age groups. Moreover, diabetes and high blood pressure played a significant role in the development of the disease among the study samples.
