In support and encouragement to graduate students, the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, chaired the Master’s thesis discussion committee, which discusses the development of environmentally friendly porous concrete units using waste and supplementary cement materials. The thesis presented by the student Rafal Zuhair Mahmood dealt with the production of lightweight and heat-insulating concrete units using construction and industrial waste, and it is environmentally friendly by disposing of waste and providing the energy needed for air conditioning at a low cost. The study included the use of different types of waste with different mixing ratios to obtain the optimum mixing ratios.

The thesis aims to solve an environmental problem represented in the accumulation of rubble and waste resulting from demolition operations and industrial waste by producing lightweight concrete units with high voids, which provides environmentally friendly thermal insulation at a low cost.
