Dr. Haidar Abdul Dhiad, the Scientific Undersecretary of the Minister of Higher Education, stated:
“The convening of the first meeting of the Technical Education Council today is a necessary step for coordinating and managing technical education, under the supervision of the esteemed Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi. This reflects the direct support from the Ministry of Higher Education to overcome challenges, as our country is one of the leading nations in technical education. He pointed out that technical universities and the Technological University are fundamental to providing job opportunities.”
He expressed hope for creating job opportunities, especially since the ministry has implemented a series of measures in this regard, starting from the Bologna system in technical and technological universities, which is a real opportunity to elevate the level of graduates from technical education. This vision will contribute to creating jobs and fostering a knowledge-driven economy. He emphasized that the Technical Education Council is a small advisory body, and that technical education has its own uniqueness, differing from other universities.
The council discussed several topics, including its operational mechanism and the private polytechnic colleges (converting technical institutes into polytechnic colleges), the framework for technical and vocational qualifications that includes establishing a high committee responsible for overseeing the application of the technical and vocational qualifications framework for technical universities, along with providing a timeline for the program over the years and academic semesters. They also addressed the project for rehabilitating and equipping research centers and units in collaboration with Ouma International, which includes equipping renewable energy research units in technical institutes and colleges with laboratories.
