The Minister of Education announces the creation of new scientific departments in private universities and the suspension of some specializations that are not suitable for the labor market

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdel Sahib, announced the creation of several new scientific departments in private universities and colleges, and the suspension of some specializations that are not suitable for the labor market.

This came when he chaired the meeting of the General Authority for Private Universities and Colleges in the presence of the Ministry’s advisor, the head of the scientific supervision and evaluation body, several advanced owners, and the director of the private university education department, as well as university presidents and deans of private colleges.

He explained during the meeting that the development file is subject to evaluation and study of indicators related to the labor market, scientific requirements, and specialized human resources away from mediation or attempts to influence.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research directed private universities and colleges to do the following:

▪ Upgrading the teaching staff, developing infrastructure, laboratories, and the scientific research environment.

▪ Prepare for final exams for the second semester.

▪ Not burdening students with financial claims and limiting them to tuition fees.

▪ Not allowing investors to attend university council meetings.

▪ Paying attention to technical specializations in light of the qualifications framework approved by UNESCO.

▪ Going to activate the Bologna Process system and enable students to meet its academic requirements.

▪ Providing full logistical supplies for dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing specialties.

▪ Completing the requirements of orthodontic exams in the disciplines of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing.

▪ Allocating at least 25% of the financial revenues to support the scientific research plan.

▪ Accommodating graduate degree holders and making the most of graduates of international universities.

▪ Forming two specialized committees to develop the details of the retirement fund system for workers in private universities and colleges, and to study the possibility of developing some postgraduate programs in universities included in international classifications.

▪ Taking into account the quality requirements and achieving the standard ratio for the number of students and teachers.

The attendees discussed several proposals concerned with developing and improving academic performance. The Minister of Education concluded the meeting by emphasizing that private university education is an essential partner in achieving the goals of educational institutions and is subject to the same determinants and criteria approved in evaluating public universities.
