President of Northern Technical University, member and supervisor of a master’s thesis researching (the use of digital mapping and information modeling of the infrastructure of the old city in the city of Mosul using aerial photography (drone) techniques and geographic information systems)
The thesis submitted at the Engineering Technical College – Kirkuk by master’s student Mustafa Ismat Abdel Rahman.
The study discussed:
Using deep learning techniques to discover infrastructure such as roads in the old city of Mosul due to the destruction it witnessed during the terrorist ISIS
Whereas monitoring changes in road infrastructure is crucial for responding to and recovering from disasters in areas that have been exposed to disasters and destruction,
It is noteworthy that manual analysis of damage to infrastructure takes a long time and is limited in scope, while the speed of changes requires real-time monitoring, and for these reasons modern technologies were used.
The results revealed:
Significant damage of 13,249.83 meters was detected from the total road length of 20,186.93 meters in 2014 to 6,937.10 meters in 2023, indicating widespread damage.
The results demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed approach in assessing changes in the road network due to the destruction occurring in previous periods. This demonstrates the importance of integrating spectral and spatial data within deep learning frameworks to extract roads and infrastructure
In addition to using Python software to improve and develop a road simulation model and three-dimensional models.
