Northern Technical University and UNESCO Discuss the Reconstruction of Al-Hadba Minaret within the Revive Mosul and Basra Project…

As part of the lecture series on heritage preservation and management, UNESCO delivered its fourth lecture in cooperation with Northern Technical University, within the framework of the Revive Mosul and Basra Project – Phase Three, and under the gracious presence of the President of the University, Professor Dr. Aliaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar.
The lecture was dedicated to discussing the reconstruction of Al-Hadba Minaret as a pivotal scientific case study that goes beyond being a mere construction project, representing instead a real test of heritage preservation principles and the complex challenges associated with balancing historical authenticity with the requirements of contemporary engineering intervention.
The event witnessed the attendance of a distinguished group of engineers from Nineveh Governorate, representatives of relevant state institutions, as well as students from the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies – Technical Engineering College, reflecting a meaningful convergence of professional expertise and academic formation, and underscoring the importance of dialogue among decision-makers, practitioners, and educational institutions.
The presence of the University President reaffirmed the University’s strong institutional support for this scientific pathway and highlighted its role as an active academic institution in major national issues, particularly in safeguarding architectural heritage and transforming reconstruction experiences into rigorous knowledge suitable for teaching and further development.
This lecture emphasized that Al-Hadba Minaret was not rebuilt with stone alone, but rather through a scientific methodology, institutional partnership, and a vision that respects history while looking confidently toward the future.
