Mosul Technical Institute organizes a workshop on security awareness when using social media

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Technical Institute, Mosul, Assistant Professor Shahla Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Qader, the Department of Electronic Technologies organized a workshop entitled (Security Awareness when Using Social Media) delivered by Mr. Wadah Abdel-Qader Rafeeq, he tackled the definition of awareness in its general concept of the individual, then the nature and importance of community awareness as a social, political, intellectual, and security necessary to preserve society and the state, and reviewed the dangers of using social media without awareness and control, which may lead to dangerous effects, including:

  1. Exploitation of terrorist organizations to present their ideas, directly or indirectly.
  2. Its impact on directing public opinion towards various issues
  3. Its impact on social security.
  4. Disintegration of the family.
  5. The spread of forms of criminal offenses such as electronic extortion, piracy, threats, and defamation

In the end, he stressed the need for competent authorities to play their role in spreading security awareness through

  1. awareness programs
  2. Blocking suspicious websites that incite violence and terrorism and spread moral concepts alien to our society.
  3. Spread the information culture.
  4. The family monitors its children and guides them when using social media
