Master’s Technical Thesis at Northern Technical University discusses securing building gates based on facial recognition techniques… The thesis was discussed at the College of Engineering Technology/Al-Mosul, specializing in Computer Engineering Technologies, under the title: “Securing Building Gates Based on Facial Recognition Techniques.”

The thesis presented by the researcher Ghofran Khaled Hamadi Jabr aimed to design a robust algorithm for facial recognition that achieves high accuracy. In this study, deep learning techniques were employed, specifically CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), by verifying different features that could affect the model’s accuracy. The second part involved designing a preliminary model for a face detection system for surveillance applications, based on a computer with sensors to detect people and their faces in a specific area. The system could then perform automated actions such as opening the door automatically and sending an alert message.
The thesis recommended the use of facial recognition techniques to secure building gates and improve access control. The focus was on developing a strong access system to the gate that accurately identifies individuals based on their facial features and grants or denies entry accordingly. The thesis included aspects such as device selection, algorithm optimization, system integration, algorithm comparison, and various learning datasets.
The discussion was attended by the College Dean, Dr. Majid Khalil Najm, several faculty members from the scientific department, and postgraduate students.
The Discussion committee consisted of:
Assistant Professor Dr. Basma Mohammed Kamal Younis / chairperson.
Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Younis Dhanoon / member.
Lecturer Dr. Fadwa Sabhi Mustafa / member.
Assistant Professor Dr. Muhanad Luqman Ahmed / member and supervisor.
