The results of the UI Green Metric World University Rankings 2023 were announced, and the results showed that NTU in this classification, ranking 526th globally out of 1,183 international universities, and 18th locally out of a total of 74 Iraqi universities that participated in this classification.
This classification is based on 6 main axes: location and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation, education, and sustainable scientific research.
In this context, our university achieved fifth place locally in both the location and infrastructure axis, as well as the education and scientific research axis.
This progress came as a continuation of the university’s plan in its scientific approach and the development of the university at various levels, which was set by the esteemed Mrs. President of the University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, which included entering the international classifications approved by the Ministry, as the university also paid great attention to the Green Metric global classification, which classifies universities in terms of the sustainability of their operations and the extent of their commitment to clean environment standards.
Northern Technical University appeared in this classification for the first time in 2019, and has continued in the classification until now with significant progress in the positions at the local and international levels through launching the initiative to transform into a green university in 2020, where the university obtained the following ranking locally and globally:
– In 2020, the university ranked 883rd globally and 48th locally
– In 2021, the university ranked 732nd globally and 31st locally
In 2022, the university ranked 630th globally and 23rd locally
In 2023, the university ranked 525th globally and 18th locally
It is worth noting that this classification is based on several criteria that express the extent of the university’s interest in topics related to sustainable development and its goals, the extent of the universities’ commitment to sustainable practices, and their role in increasing community awareness of those topics.
In order to achieve this, one of the priorities of NTU was to make its campus clean and maintain environmental standards, as it aspires to become a leading educational institution in the field of sustainable development. The university’s progress in the current year compared to the previous year reflects the interest and efforts made by the university presidency to achieve the requirements of international environmental standards to provide a healthy and appropriate educational environment.
