2023-11-06A technical master thesis at Northern Technical University discusses the vital signs monitoring system based on the Internet of Things
A technical master thesis, specializing in medical device technology engineering, was discussed at the College of Engineering Technology in Mosul, entitled :-
“IoT-Based Vital Signs Monitoring and Fall Detection System for Elderly Healthcare”
The thesis , submitted by the researcher (Nour Abdullah Walid), examined the using and the designing of a system linked to Internet of Things technology and a network of wireless sensors for the human body shaped as a bracelet placed on the wrist. The system aims to identify cases of falls and monitor health indicators such as oxygen saturation, heart rate, and temperature. It is characterized by sounding alarms in case of loss of balance and fall, with determining its exact location, which contributes to improving care and safety programs for the elderly. The results also presented high accuracy in detecting falls and measuring health indicators at the same time, which makes it a promising solution to face this common problem among patients, the elderly, and people with special needs who need continuous care.
The aim of this thesis is based on developing a wearable system to detect falls of the elderly, in addition to monitoring some important health indicators, to improve their care and increase their safety.
The thesis recommended that the proposed system could be used as a promising solution to improve an important part of the care and safety of the elderly, especially in facing the problem of falls through early detecting falls and monitoring important health indicators such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation and temperature, the system can contribute in providing better care and improving the quality of life for the elderly.
