A workshop on Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Hazards was recently held by the Department of Chemical and Oil Industries Techniques at Mosul Technical Institute. This initiative was made possible through the support of Professor Dr. Aliaa al-Attar, President of Northern Technical University (NTU), and the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Nassir Kashmola, the Dean of the Institute. The workshop was a collaborative effort with the National Center for Occupational Health and Safety and the Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Safety and Security Unit.

Workshop Goals:

• Hazard Education: To make participants aware of chemical, biological, and radiological risks, including where they come from and where they might be found.
• Risk Management: To teach methods for assessing and controlling these risks, determining their severity, and implementing protective measures.
• Safe Handling Practices: To explain how to safely work with hazardous materials, and to ensure participants understand and can properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Emergency Preparedness: To train participants on emergency response plans, proper procedures for handling incidents, and how to deal with evacuations, poisoning, or radiation exposure.
• Hands-on Training: To provide practical exercises in detecting and handling hazardous materials, and to simulate emergency situations to build confidence and readiness.

Key Recommendations:

• Promote Hazard Awareness: Stress the importance of understanding the health and environmental impacts of chemical, biological, and radiological hazards.
• Provide Ongoing Training: Conduct regular training sessions for relevant personnel to reinforce best practices for handling hazardous materials.
• Ensure PPE Availability: Guarantee that appropriate personal protective equipment is readily available and used correctly.
• Maintain Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to and effectively implement all relevant international and local standards for handling hazardous materials.
