University Advances Five Positions to Rank 11th in the National Ranking of Iraqi Universities

The Northern Technical University has advanced five positions, achieving 11th place in the national ranking of Iraqi universities.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the results of the 2025 Iraqi University Ranking, prepared by the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority. The ranking included an assessment of 103 public and private higher education institutions, based on indicators related to the educational environment, institutional performance, and the trajectory of scientific research.

The results revealed a notable qualitative advancement for the Northern Technical University, which moved from 16th place in last year’s ranking to 11th among Iraqi public universities. This significant leap reflects tangible improvements in the university’s academic, research, and institutional performance.

The ranking was based on nine main performance axes, including: institutional accreditation standards (15%), effectiveness of scientific research (35%), global rankings (10%), sustainable development and green indicators (10%), diversity and international cooperation (10%), evaluation of the scientific and academic reality and compliance rules (5%), awards (5%), occupational health and safety and environmental protection (5%), and activities (5%).

In this context, Professor Dr. Alyaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, emphasized—through her continuous follow-up of this file—the importance of motivating and encouraging teaching and research staff to enhance their scientific output and strengthen the university’s presence in local, regional, and international rankings. She noted that this progress embodies the outcome of the systematic institutional approach adopted by the university presidency.

She further explained that this achievement is the result of the sincere efforts exerted by the senior staff at the university presidency and the collective teamwork guided by a clear strategic vision aimed at improving the quality of technical education, enhancing scientific research, and fulfilling the requirements of accreditation and institutional excellence.

This accomplishment represents a pivotal milestone in the journey of the Northern Technical University and underscores its steadfast pursuit of leadership and excellence in technical education, in line with the orientations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, while strengthening the competitiveness of Iraqi universities at both the national and global levels.
