The university participates in the fifth international conference on geospatial technologies and smart cities.

Northern Technical University participated in the fifth international conference on geospatial technologies and smart cities, held by the National Security Advisory at the Al-Rashid Hotel in Baghdad, from February 7 to 9, 2026, with broad participation from governmental and academic entities.

Under the direct guidance of the President of Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alyaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the university was represented by a specialized academic delegation that included:

– Professor Dr. Muntadhir Aidi Sharif, Head of the Department of Surveying Engineering – Engineering Technical College / Kirkuk.
– Assistant Professor Dr. Du’aa Talib Hashim Hasan, Head of the Department of Geomax Engineering – Engineering Technical College / Mosul.
– Lecturer Dr. Qaseer Mahmoud Hajj Abdullah, Head of the Department of Environmental and Pollution Engineering – Engineering Technical College / Kirkuk.
– Lecturer Sumaya Faleh Hassan, Faculty Member in the Department of Surveying Engineering – Engineering Technical College / Kirkuk.

The university delegation emphasized that embracing modern geospatial technologies and integrating them with artificial intelligence applications is a fundamental pillar in developing smart city systems and improving service levels, aligning with the strategic plans of the Northern Technical University.

The conference highlighted the importance of promoting the culture of geospatial technologies, developing their usage and localization, in addition to encouraging scientific research and building effective partnerships between governmental, academic, and private sector institutions, to contribute to supporting sustainable development pathways.

The university’s participation aimed to enhance its scientific and academic presence at international forums, to gain insights into the latest geospatial technologies and their applications in the field of smart cities, as well as to explore the prospects of employing artificial intelligence technologies to support urban planning, improve resource management, and develop smart services within state institutions.
