On the occasion of the International Days for the Elimination of Violence against Women from 11/25 to 10/12, and with the orange colour chosen by the United Nations to advocate for women and remove injustice against them….
Under the guidance of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, our university organised a diverse celebration by the Peace Team of the Peaceful Coexistence Unit and with the support of UNESCO. The celebration included acting scenes inspired by real life, in which the students addressed cases of women’s oppression, such as the marriage of minors, assault, and harassment of girls. Then, the dialogue focused on the actions that society should take to eliminate those situations that weaken women and destroy their abilities. The university president spoke to the university students about the necessity of taking initiatives that would give women the ability and strength to carry out their duties and leadership role to advance society, stressing that woman is half of society, as she gives birth and raises the second half. Thus, she is considered the whole of society.
Additionally, it was referred to the potential role of the man in society who should support women and stand with them, side by side, in order to keep pace with progress in the world. Then, the President of the University opened a bazaar where a group of women from the city of Mosul participated, including the university’s female students. Those students’ talents ranged between making accessories, candles, handicrafts, drawing, and making pastries and foodstuffs. The ceremony, in which the Women’s Empowerment Division and a number of university employees participated, included a women’s marathon. In the end, Her Excellency awarded the participants medals.
