The Technical Agricultural College – Mosul Holds a Seminar on the Allelopathic Effects of Barley and Safflower Residues on the Growth and Yield Traits of Both Crops
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Shihab Ahmed Al-Bajari, Dean of the Technical Agricultural College – Mosul, the Department of Plant Production Techniques organized a seminar entitled:
“Allelopathic Effects of Barley and Safflower Residues on the Growth and Yield Traits of Both Crops.”
The seminar was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Khalid Ibrahim, who discussed the concept of allelopathy, its influence on interactions among crop species, and its impact on growth and yield performance.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including:
-
Conducting further studies on the concentrations of allelopathic compounds in different plant parts (roots, leaves, seeds, and straw) to identify the precise source of allelopathic influence.
-
Encouraging future research to examine the effects of agricultural practices (such as organic fertilization or the addition of decomposer organisms) in reducing allelopathic effects and assessing their long-term environmental impact.
-
Raising farmers’ awareness of the importance of understanding allelopathic interactions among crops before planning crop sequences, as this contributes to improved productivity and soil fertility conservation.
The seminar was attended by a number of faculty members and staff from the Technical Agricultural College – Mosul, and featured valuable discussions that enriched the scientific dialogue and promoted research exchange among participants.
