The President of Northern Technical University attends part of a doctoral dissertation discussion on “An Electromechanical System to Reduce Load in Ankle Joint Rehabilitation.”
In support of graduate students, Dr. Alyaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the President of Sulaimaniya Technical University, attended part of the doctoral dissertation discussion at the Technical Engineering College in Kirkuk, presented by the student Talib Sabah Hussein (Electromechanical System to Reduce Load in Ankle Joint Rehabilitation).
The study addressed:
The design and manufacturing of an economical external structure that combines the kinetic properties of both static and dynamic rehabilitation. Additionally, it involved the manufacturing of a maintenance-friendly and low-cost force sensor (EMS) used to measure the force applied to the ankle joint.
The aim of the study:
To enhance the effectiveness of rehabilitation for patients suffering from ankle joint injuries by determining the load and controlling the dorsiflexion/plantarflexion angle of the ankle joint and the reactive forces (stresses) affecting during therapeutic exercises and walking.
Research results:
The study revealed that after using the rehabilitation structure, the patient’s ability to walk normally was enhanced. This design works by absorbing or dissipating the force generated at the ankle joint and directing it to the front of the foot. This process reduces the problem of ankle stiffness, accelerates recovery, and protects the ankle from side effects. The results of this study can be utilized in the medical field to increase the effectiveness of rehabilitation for patients with ankle joint injuries by determining the load and controlling the dorsiflexion/plantarflexion angle of the ankle joint and the reactive forces (stresses) affecting during therapeutic exercises and walking.
